Is the library's conference room available for public use?
Yes. Use is free to individual persons and non-profit organizations. Businesses wishing to conduct a business event in the conference will be charged a fee.
Does the library offer wifi access to the public.
Yes. The library provides access to the internet via a password protected wifi band for use with your personal computing device. Users are expected to know how to connect their device to the wifi connection. Please obtain the current password from a staff member.
Does the library provide computers for public use?
Yes, the library has 12 desktop computers configured for public use. You do not need a library card to use a public access computer. Computing sessions are limited to 1 hour, but longer sessions can be arranged with a staff member.
How do I get a library card?
There are two classes of library membership - resident and non-resident.
Resident library cards are available to anyone living in a habitable residential dwelling located within the boundariy of the Library District, which is coterminus with the boundary of the City of Susanville. There is no charge for a Resident card as it is covered by a special fee on residential properties paid by property owners. Lassen College students are considered residents for purposes of obtaining a Lassen Library District library card. Proof of enrollment is required.
Non-resident library cards are availabele to anyone who lives outside the boundary of the Library District. There is an annual fee of $28 per residential property which providesa library card for each person living in the household for which the fee is paid.
Library cards are issued for one year and are renewable.
Everyone is entitled to and encouraged to use library facilities, but only those people who have a library card can borrow books or materials and access certain online diigtal resources. Everyone, card holders and non-card holders alike, may be assessed usage fees for the use of certain facilities, programs, services and products which are not considered basic library services covered by library card ownership.
To obtain a library card, you must:
- Apply in person;
- Prove who you are by presenting photo identification, such as CA drivers license, CA I.D. card, military / D.O.D. I.D., or passport
- Prove where you live by presenting documentation of a physical address (a Post Office box mailing address is not sufficient), such as your property tax statement, rental agreement, utility bill, vehicle registration, CA drivers license, or personal check with printed address. Lassen College students must show proof of registration for the current semester.
- Be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, if under the age of 18 years. Parents/guardians of minors will also be required to complete consent forms for their minor children to use the library's public access computers.
Patrons are responsible for informing library staff of any changes in name, address, or phone number.
