These sources provide numerous ways of finding reading material that is appropriate for children, teens and adults as well as tools to find your next best read.

Resources Primarily for Children

A Parent's Guide to Understanding Reading Levels and Good Fit  
Use this guide if you’re looking to understand some of the popular “leveling” systems, how to find a “good fit” book, and for websites to help you find specific book titles appropriate for each level.

ALA Book Media Award Recipients  
Complete listing of annual book and media awards administered by the American Library Association and its divisions, with links to lists of medal winners and honor books to the present year. These awards include the Caldecott, Newbery, Printz, Alex and Geisel Awards, the most well-known in children’s and young adult publishing.

ALA ALSC Books and Media for Kids 
A searchable collection of nearly 2,000 books, recordings, apps, and websites for children from birth up to 14 years of age. The titles included on this site vary widely, reflecting 100 years of the ALSC’s awards history and delivering the latest, greatest materials for contemporary readers, listeners, learners, and gamers. Compiled by the American Library Association's Association for Library Service for Children.

ALA Challenged Books Lists 
Lists of often-called "banned books" -- those that members of the public have fought to have removed from library shelves. 

Gnooks 
A search engine for literature that asks you which authors you like and then returns the names of other authors that might be of interest to you.

Goodreads
Provides "best of ..." booklists, author and genre searches, access to reviews by other Goodreads members

National Book Foundation Awards 
The National Book Awards honors the best fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translated literature, and young people’s literature published each year., The awards are overseen by the National Book Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to celebrate the best literature in America, expand its audience, and ensure that books have a prominent place in American culture. 

New York Times Best Seller Lists 
The list is based on weekly sales reports obtained from selected samples of independent and chain bookstores and wholesalers throughout the United States. The lists are widely believed to represent books that have actually been sold at retail, rather than wholesale, in an attempt to better reflect what is purchased by individual buyers.

Nobel Prizes for Literature  
As directed by Alfred Nobel in his will, the Nobel Prize for Literature is awarded "... to the person who, in the field of literature, produced the most outstanding work in an idealistic direction ...".

Pulitzer Prize Winners  
Pulitzer Prize Award winners in 22 categories of  excellence in journalism, US history, biography, fiction, autobiography or memoir, original verse, poetry, nonfiction, drama, music, and nonfiction by an American author that is not eligible for consideration in any other category. 

Whichbook 
Find books by selecting moods or emotions addresed by the book, a place on the world map, character type or plot, or a current best seller. Not designed for you to search by author or genre.
