Public Computers & WiFi
Public Use Computers
We have 12 computers that offer high-speed Internet access as well as the Microsoft Office 2016 productivity suite. You do not need a Lassen Library District card to use the computers but will need to obtain a PIN from the Circulation Desk to log-on the computers. Usage is limited to 1 hour sessions unless otherwise arranged with the Circulation Desk before hand. Printing from the computers is to the Circulation Desk printer/copier. Users must provide their own USB flash drives to save any work they perform on the computers as that work will be erased when the user signs off. Lassen Library does not employ software-based filtering of user activity but staf members have tools to observe and monitor what is being performed on the computers and will enforce the library's usage policies if vioations are noticed. Users are required to adhere to the library’s Computer and Internet Use Policy. Staff members will provide assistance as necessary, as time permits and if within their capabilities.
Free Public Wireless Access
We provide free public wireless Internet access throughout the library. WiFi availability is generally limited to the library's hours of operation. Access to the WiFi service is password protected. Users must obtain the current password from the Circulation Desk. There is no time limit on how long a user can stay connected. The wireless network is an unsecured connection; it is the responsibility of the laptop/wireless device owner to provide anti-virus and firewall protection when using the Internet via the wireless network. Patrons using personal laptops or mobile devices are expected to use the library’s wireless access in accordance with the Library’s Wireless Access Policy. All users are expected to use the library wireless access in a legal and responsible manner. Users must know how to connect their own computer device to the WiFi network as the library staff is not expected to provide that knowledge. Printing from the wireless connection is not available.
