Workforce Development Platforms

These resources are supported in whole or in part by funding provided by the State of California, administered by the California State Library.

The platforms offer resources for workforce development and recovery, test prep, career change, small business startup, digital skill building, soft skills, certifications, and more. Platforms are available until September 30, 2023. Access to the platforms after this date will depend on available funding and demonstrated demand for them.

Coursera Icon

To register click on the icon to the left and in the Coursera section of the resulting web page enter your full name, email address, select Lassen Library District in the fields .program.label drop down window and click Submit

Number of available registrations is unlimited. Registered users will have access for 6 months after joining a learning program

Coursera’s global online learning platform provides learners with access to more than 5,000 world-class, job-relevant courses and Certifications from 200+ world-class business, government, and university partners, including Yale, Johns Hopkins and Google.

Courses include: English for Business and Entrepreneurship (ESL), Foundations of Public Health Practice, Become an EMT, Bookkeeping Basics, Introduction to Google Docs, Design a Restaurant Menu (using HTML and CSS on VScode or Google Sites), Food and Beverage Management, Branding: The Creative Journey.

The “Gateway Certification” program is for people without a college degree and with no experience in the field. Built by leading companies such as Google, Facebook, and Salesforce it is designed to prepare individuals for an entry-level, in-demand career in order to provide them with an onramp to economic opportunity.

Number of available registrations is unlimited. Registered users will have access until September 30, 2022. Registration can be made by signing in with one’s Facebook credentials or by providing first and last name, email address, and age. Users will receive a pass or code to be able to access all the classes they would like to participate in for a month at a time.

Is a social learning platform for older adults 50+, taught by peers. More than 40 live classes are offered every week day as well as 25 on weekends. The classes are live and consist of Digital Learning, Physical Health (exercise, healthy cooking), Mental Health (stress, meditation, dementia), Social Health (book club, gardening, pets), and Vocational Health (resume writing, interviewing).

Course offerings include: Introduction to Youtube, Google Docs basics, Get Started with Zoom, Apple iCloud basics, Common Scams and Frauds, Android Smartphone Security and Safety, TV Streaming Devices, Being the Best Grandparent Ever, Get Started Creating Your Own Podcast, Blue Zones - What Are They?

ebsco learningexpress 225Number of available registrations is unlimited. Registered users will have access until September 30, 2023. User registration requires a first name, e-mail address and a registered user generated password.

Organized into targeted learning centers, LearningExpress Library Complete supports those looking to improve core academic skills, pass a high school equivalency test, prepare for college, join the military, obtain occupational certification, find a job, change careers, become a U.S. citizen and much more. Learning centers contain video courses, practice tests, interactive tutorials, e-books, articles and flashcards. Provides tools for resume building, interviewing, and job seeking, build computer literacy skills.

Number of available registrations is unlimited. Registered users will have access until September 30, 2023. To register you need to provide your first and last name and your email address. Northstar will then send you an email with directions to complete your account setup.

Northstar Digital Literacy offers online, self-guided modules that provide individuals the abilities needed to perform 14 different basic digital skills on computers and online. Focuses on people with no, low, or limited technology skills. Included are basic computer digital literacy standards and modules in the three main areas of Essential Computer Skills (Basic Computer Skills, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows OS, Mac OS), Essential Software Skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs), and Using Technology in Daily Life (Social Media, Information Literacy, Career Search Skills, Supporting K-12 Distance Learning, Your Digital Footprint).
